Free checklist · for owners leaving a host or developer

Before you leave your web developer, get these answers in writing.

Moving a website is simple when you hold the domain, the files, and the email records. It is painful when you find out on launch day that the domain is in someone else’s name or the only copy of your site lives on a server you cannot log into. The Website Migration Checklist is the handover list Aday Interactive, Inc. works through before moving a client’s site: 33 questions, each with the answer you should expect.

Ownership and access: the domain, the DNS, the hosting, and the two-factor codes
The handover files: backups, design files, content, form submissions, and custom code
Email: the DNS records that keep your mail working the day the site moves
Accounts, licenses, and the contract: what stops working the day you leave, and who owns what
Answers that should worry you, and what to do if you cannot get answers at all

Why the order matters

Finish the handover before anyone touches DNS.

The domain is the business.

If it is in the developer’s name, that transfer comes first. Everything else on the list can be rebuilt. The domain cannot.

Email breaks more often than websites do.

The DNS changes made for a new site often overwrite the records that route your mail. The checklist tells you which four records to screenshot before anything moves.

Get it in writing.

Every item is a question to ask and the answer you should expect. A handover with no date is a handover that is not happening.

If the old developer stalls or you are not sure what will break, that is work we do often. Bring the checklist with the answers you have to a Discovery Call and we will chase the rest.

Website Migration Checklist, questions answered

What is in the Website Migration Checklist?

A free six-page checklist with 33 questions to ask your old web developer or hosting company before you move your website. It covers ownership and access, the handover files, email, third-party accounts, licenses, and the contract and timeline, plus the answers that should worry you and what to do if you cannot get answers.

Who is it for?

Any business owner who already has a website and is changing hosts, leaving a developer or agency, or planning a rebuild. If you are starting from zero, the free Website Build Kit is the better starting point.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. No credit card, and you can unsubscribe in one click. You give us a name and email and we send it over right away.

Can Aday Interactive, Inc. run the handover for me?

Yes. Rebuilds and migrations are one of our three build types. We inventory the current site, map every old URL to a new one, protect the email records, and keep the old site live as a fallback through launch. Book a Discovery Call to scope it.
